Last time Jo and Ross looked after Ike they took him with them as a member of Team 47 on The Italian Job, a Mini car rally through Europe to Italy. That was in October 2019 and they had great weather for the most part. This year Jo & Ross have taken Ike on a slightly scaled-down rally and they’ve called it The Yorkshire Job. Geography Cat knows that Yorkshire has scenery to rival anywhere in the world so we’re delighted that Team 47 are on the road again and sharing their adventure with Ike for us all. Thank you!
Huddersfield
Setting off from Team 47 HQ in Huddersfield
Victoria Tower on Castle Hill, Almondbury, Huddersfield. There are signs on settlement on this sandstone outcrop dating back 4000 years.
Hebden Bridge
The Rochdale Canal was an important part of the textile trade in the nineteenth century. It runs from Sowerby Bridge to Manchester. Most of the canal was closed by the 1960s when the construction of the M62 put the tin lid on it by cutting the canal in two. Restoration of sections began in the 1970s. This section (between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge was reopened in 1983.

Haworth
Ike chats to a local in the beautiful Pennine village of Howarth
The Old School Room
The Brontë Graves
The Brontë Parsonage Museum
Charlotte, Branwell, Emily and Anne Brontë all taught at the Old School House when it wasn’t old. They grew up in the Brontë Parsonage which is now a museum. All the Brontë siblings died young; Branwell aged 31, Emily aged 30, Anne aged 29, probably all from tuberculosis, and Charlotte aged 38 possibly also from TB, or possibly from complications of pregnancy.
Harrogate
Ike window shops at the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms and wanders around Harrogate after a good day’s run out
Check back tomorrow for day 2 of The Yorkshire Job with Ike and Team 47.
I have seen this edifice countless times as a backdrop on BBC Look North and wondered what it was. Thanks to Ike now I know. “Victoria Tower on Castle Hill, Almondbury, Huddersfield.”
