Thank you to Alison for sending this card of Vicar’s Close in Wells, Somerset. It is reported to be the oldest purely residential street with its original buildings intact in Europe. Construction began in 1348, during Edward III’s reign, and in the same year that the Black Death arrived on England’s shores.
